While not in the film or the album, "Into The Na'vi World" was written to fit in between tracks 2 and 3 of the album.

that actually was my theory, i think it was meant for the first flight to pandora. the version in the film is more percussion-based and less thematic, i think.

It sounds like so many of your initial ideas made it into the film. What there anything that didn’t make in?

Actually, the majority of our work did not appear intact, but the essence of those sounds were utilized to create the lovely colors of Pandora. Partly because the film was initially very long, many scenes of Na’vi life (including music) had to be cut. The Na’vi culture emphasizes visual arts over music, especially woven things. Weaving is really big in their culture, [as well as] an important artistic expression for them. The Na’vi have big looms, which are tree size and that 5-7 people work on at time. We did record a weaving song, specifically at the request of Jim Cameron, but unfortunately, it got cut too. I knew when we were in trouble when I heard the movie was over 3 hours long. You can’t have a film that’s 3 hours long. It’s not commercially viable. And there were parts that, while crucial to the culture of the Na’vi, were not crucial to the plot of the film.

Oh. My. Word.

I knew it all along (and likely explains to where Into th Na'vi World and Bioluminescence of the Night went). Wow. Here's where your Na'vi music is and why what is in the film is so traditional--the culture stuff got cut. What a shame. I've seen the movie 4 times just so I can study the Na'vi. I want this cut stuff.

Horner got a brief mention in a Los Angeles Times story today on the Oscar nominee luncheon from James Cameron:

http://theenvelope.latimes.com/la-et-oscarlunch16-2010feb16,0,4644800.story

Quote:
Cameron, for his part, said that he was glad to back for the first time since 1998, when his "Titanic" took home a boatload of Oscars. "It's only my second time, so it's kind of a trip for me. There are people who've been here eight or nine times. [Composer] James Horner, I think, has been here 10 times."

Jim Cameron announces a home release date:

Quote:
“It’s all right on schedule,” said Cameron. “We’ll do the Blu-ray and the standard def DVD April 22nd, that’s our plan as of right now, and that’ll be pretty much bare bones. And then we’ll do a value-added DVD and a 3-D Blu-ray in I think November sometime.”

Fox Home Entertainment couldn’t confirm the release dates.

Horner can be seen in the front row (near center) next to B-movie master (and honorary Oscar winner) Roger Corman in these panoramic Academy Award nominee 2010 class photos:

Hans Zimmer and Michael Giacchino are next to each other, also in the front row on the far left side.

What are the chances that Zimmer flipped the bird at Horner? OR, yanked on his beard and took off in his BMW?

Too funny...

That's a great panorama, there.

In the interactive panorama, keep an eye on Jeff Bridges. Definitely wasn't expecting to have his photo taken Razz.

Also, I can't believe how awful Randy Newman (next to James on the Oscar statue) looks. He got old and fast.
