The Song:
I've received countly requests on various types of information concerning the song "Twilight and Mist" from Legends of the Fall. In the film, it is played on piano by Julia Ormond (Susannah) and sung by Henry Thomas (Samuel). On the soundtrack album, it is found at the beginning of the second track, "The Ludlows," in piano only. Though many have presumed that the solo piano was played by Horner himself, it is Randy Kerber's eloquent playing that graces this recording. This has been confirmed by sources in the industry who work with Mr. Kerber on a professional basis.
Score Sheets:
The single-most question I receive through this site is "Where can I find the sheet music for 'Twilight and Mist'?" For many years, I had no easy answer to this question other than to contact TSP Music, Inc., which is administered by Sony Tunes, Inc. (ASCAP).
As of July 17, 2003, I am very happy to announce that Boardman Music has taken it upon themselves to license the music and sell a variety of arrangements, including the much-sought piano solo and a beatuiful string-quartet arrangement.
Please support their efforts and visit their website.
Additionaly, it should be noted that the sheet music available at Sheet-Music.com are piano arrangements of various themes, none of which are the "Twilight and Mist" theme.
The Lyrrics:
As evening fell, a maiden stood
At the edge of a wood.
In her hands lay the reins
Of a stallion.
And ne'er I'd seen a girl as fair,
Heard a gentler voice anywhere.
Whispered, "Alas..."
She belonged, belonged to another--
Another forever.
Yes, she belonged to
the twilight and mist.
