I am 23 years old, and I live in Santa Barbara, CA. I recently finished my fifth year at the University of California Santa Barbara, having pursued degrees in both Chemical Engineering (4 yrs) and Biochemistry (1yr). I am currently involved with the Multimedia Arts and Technologies department at Santa Barbara City College, whose multimedia department is highly regarded in the industry.
Having finally found my niche, I am now in the process of narrowing my focus. There is so much out there in this burgeoning field, and so many desires to entertain. The sound engineering industry also intrigues me a great deal, but my talents in graphic design have been pulling me further into this exciting realm as well. It is my hope that my future semesters at SBCC will guide me to where-ever my future career lies.
When I'm not focusing on school, I'm usually doing one zany thing or another with the guys and gals of the Zeta chapter of Alpha Gamma Omega, a Christ-centred fraternity at UCSB, with nine other active chapters in the U.S. We have a Little Sister program, a group of awesome women who hang out with us and love us for no apparent reason. However, they have all been a blessing in my life, and I count myself lucky to call them my friends. I live in A.G.O. house in the room we call "The Loft: The Room that Rocks".
They call it that because my room houses the biggest stereo in our home. I am an audiophile on a college student's budget, so I've made an art out of getting the biggest bang for my buck. And let me tell you: my housemates are always aware of that "bang" when they hear those thunderous hits in Erich Kunzel's conduction of the Cincinnati Pops' performance of Horner's End Titles to The Rocketeer. Just as a plug for my personal preferences: on my budget, I've found that the best bang for the buck has been engineered by the guys at Technics, a hardware company to whom I am wholly devoted. Theirs (and Onkyo's) is the equipment that packs the most features and gives the best sound before having to move up into the higher-end equipment (like Carver and Harmon-Kardan). For speakers, I have a hybrid system of JBLs, Inifintys and two monsterous Pioneer loudspeakers that are older than I am! When I really want to hear every detail of the music, I slip on a pair of JVC's exquisite HA-D810 digital-ready headphones to hear even musicians shifting in their chairs and conductors turning the pages of their score. Also, I like to mention that for taping music from CD, I use TDK SA-X 100 cassettes exclusively. Down with Maxell!
The Loft: The Room that Rocks is also the room out of which I work as an independent web consultant. I've just finished a site for Lindero Canyon Middle School, located in an affluent suburb of Los Angeles, CA, and am currently doing some work for various departments at SBCC.
However, my biggest on-line project has always been a labour of love, the World Wide Web James Horner Shrine. Besides James Horner, I love the music of John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, Patrick Doyle, and a handful of others, but I particularly enjoy the music of Thomas Newman. Since the Shrine's inception in February 1996, I have heard from lots of cool people, developed many wonderful friendships, and learned a bag-full of web tricks to continually make the Shrine a cool place to visit.
And thanks for visiting me at my profile page.
